New Moon in Libra – Redressing the Balance – October 2020

New Moon in Libra - Redressing the balance - October 2020.docx.jpg

The power and intensity coming down from the cosmos right now, is literally blowing our minds (and our computers – don’t get me started)!

Mercury, recently retrograde in Scorpio (13 October – 3 November), will be opposing Uranus, the planet of revolutionary change and great awakenings, until Friday 23rd.  This pattern breaking energy could help liberate us from childhood conditioning and mental programming and bring some surprising and perhaps shocking revelations to light, over the coming week.

On top of this, we have three lunar cycles this month, instead of the usual two.  In astrology the Moon represents our feelings and reactions and always acts as a trigger. With two Full Moons, on October, 1st and 31st, and Friday’s recent New Moon in Libra, which feels more like a Full Moon because of its challenging aspects, things are really starting to crescendo and come to a head.

It feels like we’re in the last cycle of an alchemical washing machine - the bit when everything starts to spin really fast and just when you think that final spin is over, it starts up again.  If you’re struggling to find your footing, it’s not surprising. This mixture of purging and liberating energy is intensifying the unravelling of entrenched structures and conditioning that have ruled us for a very long time.

Friday’s Libra New Moon, in the sign of harmony, peace and balance, comes at a key turning point for humanity and is calling for a realignment of the highest order. If you’re feeling stuck or confused, set your intentions now, while this New Moon energy is still strong.

This current Moon cycle will peak on 31 October, with a profoundly cathartic Full Moon in Taurus.  Full Moons bring things to light and encourage us to let go of what no longer serves us.  With the Moon exactly conjunct consciousness raising Uranus, opposite the Sun in Scorpio, the energy of illumination and release will take us to another level.

October is a game changing month. If we can hang on in there, we have every chance of emerging from this deep cosmic cleanse with a lighter load and a stronger sense of who we are.

NEW MOON IN LIBRA

Friday 16th October – 20.31 (bst), 3.31pm (est), 12.31pm (pac)

The New Libra Super Moon was as intense and powerful as it gets and will set the tone for the next four weeks.

During this New Moon, the Sun and Moon, in easy going Libra, was in a tight opposition to Mars in Aries, which says ‘I want what I want!’ The Aries/Libra axis, of ‘me’ versus ‘you’, brings relationship dynamics to the forefront. The Sun, Moon and Mars were also making a tense square aspect to paradigm-shifting Pluto, Saturn and Jupiter, all now moving forwards in Capricorn.

Mars, opposite the Sun and Moon, is reminding us of what we want and need. But the tension of the square is asking us to find a way of asserting ourselves without falling into the Libra habit of over compromising and giving away our power, in order to keep the peace.

This New Moon, and retrograde Mercury in Scorpio, is encouraging us to have some deep and honest conversations.

WE CAN WORK IT OUT

Everything we’ve been working on this year is coming to a head.  We could be in the process of trying to make an important decision; the potential for change is palpable.  But, with both Mars (action) and Mercury (communication) travelling retrograde, we could also be feeling stuck and unsure about how to move forward.

Thankfully, Venus, the ruler of this New Moon, is in the practical earth sign of Virgo.  It’s also making a supportive trine aspect to the trio of Capricorn planets, who have an interest in our long-term future.  Virgo teaches us that in order to avoid overwhelm, we need to prioritise, get rid of clutter, make a list and do one thing at a time.  If we draw on the sensible and stabilising energies of this constructive aspect, we have every chance of coming up with workable solutions to our problems.

The New Moon in Scorpio, on 15 November, coincides with Mars going forwards. By then we should start to feel like things are getting back on track.

The energy of polarisation and divisiveness is very strong at the moment.

The UK is currently split in two, with one half of the country experiencing tighter lock down rules than the other half. Heated opinions are flying around about how we should be handling this crisis, along with a sense of righteousness.  It’s hard not to get caught up in it all!

It might feel like the polarisation in the world is getting stronger, but my view is that the current planetary alignments and oppositions in the sky are just making an imbalance, that has existed for centuries, more visible.

This is happening collectively and personally - peoples’ ‘issues’, are really up right now.  Retrograde Mercury in Scorpio is giving us access to the deepest recesses of our being, helping us to become conscious of our own imbalance and the parts of ourselves that we’re cut off from. It’s a prime time for initiating conversations with these different parts to discuss how they can work better as a team!

THE WAY FORWARD – BALANCING THE YIN AND YANG

The ongoing square between Mars in Aries and the planets in Capricorn, continues to challenge a patriarchal, hierarchical dominated world.

All of the Full Moons and New Moons over the next two months are taking place in signs that are ruled by either Mars or Venus.  The advice from the universe is that what is required, as we move forward, is a rebalancing of the masculine and feminine energies; within the collective and within ourselves.

We can support this process by balancing our own yin and yang through acupuncture, qigong, reiki or whatever practice we do.  It’s also a key time for healing the 1st chakra (identity/survival/grounding), ruled by Mars and the 2nd chakra (love/fertility/enjoyment) ruled by Venus,

Rather than being pulled into the polarity of our times, the energy of Libra is calling for collaboration, partnership and union.  Venus (personal love) currently opposite Neptune (divine love) and Mercury (logical mind) opposite Uranus (higher consciousness) asks us to come together as one heart and one mind.

It might feel like we’re losing control and descending into chaos, but we’re actually in a process of becoming more unified and balanced.  A new version of humanity is being born. Let’s allow the harmonizing energy of this New Moon in Libra to show us the way.
